Connects 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch IDE hard drives via USB 3.0 and adds extra USB ports for peripherals
This USB 3.0 to IDE ATA converter lets you connect 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch parallel ATA hard drives to any computer with a USB port. It is aimed at technicians, archivists and hobbyists who need to read, copy or recover data from legacy IDE disks. The built-in USB 3.0 hub adds extra ports so you can attach a mouse or flash drive at the same time.
A matched power cable supplies the extra current that 3.5-inch drives demand, keeping them spinning stably during long transfers. The integrated hub expands your host’s USB connectivity without occupying another socket on the computer. Plug-and-play operation with hot-swap support means no driver installation is required on mainstream operating systems.
This adapter replaces the need for a motherboard IDE header or a bulky drive dock when you only need occasional access to old disks. The jump is worth it when you have a handful of IDE drives to archive and want a compact, portable tool that works on laptops as well as desktops. It does not support SATA drives, so builders with mixed drive types will need a separate solution.

It uses USB 3.0, so the practical ceiling is the 5 Gb/s USB 3.0 bus shared between the IDE drive and the extra hub ports.
The board accepts 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch IDE drives; the included power cable plugs into the drive’s Molex connector to supply the extra current a 3.5-inch unit requires.
Connect the IDE drive to the adapter, attach the power cable to the drive, plug the USB 3.0 cable into the computer, then power on the drive before the OS loads so the hot-swap controller detects it.
