SMUGDESK USB 3.0 to SAS adapter with SFF-8482 connector for 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives

SMUGDESK

SMUGDESK USB 3.0 to SAS Adapter SFF-8482 for 2.5/3.5" Drives

SKU CH-QVGY-0AKWB

Connects 2.5" and 3.5" SAS drives via USB 3.0 using an SFF-8482 connector, requiring external power

  • Connect SAS drives via USB 3.0 using SFF-8482 converter
  • Works with both 2.5 and 3.5 inch SAS disks
  • USB 3.0 standard enables fast data transfer rates
  • External power supply required as adapter has no built-in module
  • Compact and portable design simplifies drive testing tasks

SAS drive connectivity via USB

The SMUGDESK adapter converts a USB 3.0 port into an SFF-8482 connection for 2.5 and 3.5 inch SAS hard drives. It serves technicians and users who need direct access to enterprise storage media from standard computers without a dedicated controller. The compact unit enables drive diagnostics, data recovery and archival tasks on the go.

USB 3.0 bandwidth and power limits

The USB 3.0 interface caps throughput at its native signalling rate, which may restrict peak SAS drive performance during sustained transfers. The adapter contains no internal power circuitry, so an external power source must supply the correct voltage and current for the attached drive to spin up and operate reliably.

Verify drive power needs and host ports

Confirm that your SAS drive uses the SFF-8482 connector and that you have a suitable external power supply matching its voltage and amperage requirements. Ensure the host system provides a USB 3.0 port for adequate bandwidth; USB 2.0 ports will function but at reduced speed.

Questions about this item

Does this adapter work with both 2.5 and 3.5 inch SAS drives?

Yes, the adapter accepts SFF-8482 SAS drives in both 2.5 and 3.5 inch form factors.

What real-world speed can I expect when copying files over USB 3.0?

USB 3.0 caps the link at 5 Gbps, so sustained throughput will be limited by that interface rather than the SAS drive itself.

Does the USB 3.0 connection provide enough power for a 3.5 inch drive?

No, the adapter has no built-in power module; a separate external power supply is required for the drive to operate.
