What this cable delivers

The SMUGDESK USB4 cable carries 40 Gbps data, 240 W power and 8K 60 Hz video over a 1.5 ft braided USB-C to USB-C link. It meets the USB4 specification and supports Thunderbolt 3 and 4 hosts. PD 3.1 and QC 4.0 fast-charge protocols are included.

Who it suits and who it does not

Creators moving large video files between Thunderbolt 4 laptops and high-speed SSDs will use the full 40 Gbps bandwidth. Users charging a 240 W laptop or driving an 8K 60 Hz display also need this headroom. Buyers whose devices top out at lower USB speeds or power levels will not see any benefit from the extra capacity.

The spec that decides fit

The single deciding factor is whether the host and peripheral both support USB4 40 Gbps operation; if either end is limited to USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 speeds the cable will fall back to that lower rate.

Questions about this item

Will the 40Gbps USB4 cable work with my older Thunderbolt 3 dock?

Yes, the cable is backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.2, 3.1, and 3.0, so it will connect to your existing dock at the highest speed both devices support.

How can I confirm the cable is delivering 240W charging to my laptop?

Check your laptop's power settings or battery menu while connected; it should report a charge rate up to 240W (48V/5A) if the charger and laptop both support USB PD 3.1.

Does the 1.5FT braided cable include a power adapter or video adapters?

No, the box contains only the USB-C to USB-C cable; a 240W USB PD 3.1 charger and any required display adapters must be purchased separately.
