High-availability desktop firewall with 8 Gigabit Ethernet and two 5G SFP ports for small-branch security
Hardware TZ380
Configuration High Availability
The SonicWall TZ380 High Availability appliance (03-SSC-6964) serves as the secondary unit in an active-backup pair for small organisations and lean branches. It runs SonicOS 8 and provides eight 1 GbE copper ports plus two multi-rate SFP ports at 5G, 2.5G or 1G. Deep packet inspection covers gateway anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention and TLS decryption. Content Filtering Service 5.0 adds reputation-based URL filtering and keyword scanning.
Maximum power consumption is 13.77 W from a 100-240 VAC supply drawing 0.27 A at 50-60 Hz. The desktop form factor measures 3.5 x 13 x 19 cm and weighs 0.82 kg with no moving parts listed, so it runs silently in office environments. Compliance includes FCC Class B, CE, UL and RoHS among others.
This unit adds stateful high availability to an existing TZ380 deployment, eliminating a single point of failure for sites that cannot tolerate downtime. The jump is worth it when business continuity requires automatic failover with session synchronisation. It is not for buyers who need a standalone primary firewall or who require throughput beyond the 3.5 Gbps inspection and 1.5 Gbps threat prevention ratings.

Other versions of this model
Connect WAN to a 1GbE port and LAN to the remaining ports or SFP modules; the step often missed is enabling HA mode on this secondary unit before linking the dedicated HA interface to the primary appliance.
The security service subscriptions for Gateway Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Intrusion Prevention and Content Filtering Service 5.0 require periodic renewal; the optional 512 GB storage module can be added later if logging needs grow.
Threat prevention throughput is rated at 1.5 Gbps, which is lower than the 3.5 Gbps firewall inspection or 2.0 Gbps IPS and application inspection rates, so it becomes the bottleneck first.
