Desktop firewall appliance with eight 1 GbE ports, two 5G SFP ports, 4 Gbps inspection throughput and Wi‑Fi 6 management
Hardware TZ480
Configuration Hardware Only
The SonicWall TZ480 (03-SSC-1835) is a desktop security appliance built for small organisations and distributed enterprises running SD-Branch sites. It runs SonicOS 8 and provides eight 1GbE copper ports, two 5G/2.5G/1G SFP uplinks, a Micro-USB console and a USB-C port. Optional storage expansion reaches 512 Gb.
Under continuous inspection the unit delivers 2.0 Gbps anti-malware throughput, 2.2 Gbps IPS throughput and 2.2 Gbps VPN throughput while maintaining up to 1,200,000 concurrent connections and 18,000 new connections per second. Deep-packet inspection services — gateway anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention and TLS decryption — run at these rates without burst-only peaks.
Sites still limited to 1GbE uplinks and lacking SD-WAN or zero-touch onboarding gain multi-gig SFP flexibility, secure SD-WAN and centralised NSM management in one step. The jump is worth it when branch count grows beyond what legacy desktop firewalls can automate and when threat-prevention throughput must stay above 2 Gbps.

Other versions of this model
At 13.77 W the appliance produces a modest thermal load that a typical small-server room or ventilated cabinet handles without extra cooling.
You need standard Cat5e or better Ethernet patch cords for the RJ45 ports and compatible SFP transceivers with matching fibre or copper cables for the SFP slots.
Yes, the firewall includes Wi-Fi 6 management and its 1GbE and multi-gigabit SFP interfaces interoperate with legacy switches without configuration conflicts.
