Sonnet Technologies ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3 data adapter

SKU CH-132A-TTQ0Y MPN ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3

Connects a full-height PCIe card via Thunderbolt 3 at 40Gbps for up to 2750 MB/s bandwidth

  • Connects PCIe cards via 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3
  • Delivers up to 2750 MB/s for 4K video workflows
  • Supports 16Gb FC and dual 10GbE cards at full speed
  • Fits half-length cards up to 7.75 inches in PCIe 3.0 x8 slot
  • Works with Mac and Windows computers with Thunderbolt 3 ports

Single-slot PCIe expansion for Thunderbolt 3 hosts

The Sonnet Echo Express SE I connects one full-height, half-length PCIe 3.0 x8 card to a Mac or Windows computer through a 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 link. It targets creative professionals who need capture, fibre-channel or 10 GbE cards without a desktop workstation chassis.

Up to 2750 MB/s bandwidth for one x8 card

The single slot delivers PCIe 3.0 x8 electrical bandwidth, enough for 4K capture cards, 16 Gb fibre-channel adapters or dual-port 10 GbE NICs at full line rate. Cards longer than 7.75 inches or double-width designs will not fit, and a second expansion card cannot be added.

Two Thunderbolt 3 ports for daisy-chaining

One port links the chassis to the host; the second leaves a free Thunderbolt 3 connection for downstream peripherals or displays. The unit requires its own AC power and a host with a native Thunderbolt 3 controller — USB-C ports that lack Thunderbolt will not work.

Questions about this item

Will the 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 link let me keep using my older PCIe 3.0 x8 card at full speed?

Yes, the chassis provides a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot delivering up to 2750 MB/s, so a compatible half-length card up to 7.75 inches long runs at its rated performance.

How can I confirm the 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 connection is active after I plug everything in?

The system reports a Thunderbolt 3 link at 40 Gbps in the OS device manager or System Information, and the installed PCIe card appears at x8 width with expected throughput.

Does the box include the Thunderbolt 3 cable and power supply, or must I buy them separately?

The expansion chassis ships with its integrated power supply and a Thunderbolt 3 cable for the host connection; no extra power brick or cable is required.
