Flagship mirrorless camera

The Sony A1 is a full-frame mirrorless camera body built for professionals who need high-resolution stills and 8K video in a single system. Its 50.1MP stacked CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor deliver blackout-free continuous shooting at 30fps with 120 AF/AE calculations per second. Real-time Eye-AF tracks humans, animals and birds for reliable focus across demanding assignments.

Electronic shutter limits

The silent, vibration-free electronic shutter syncs with flash at 1/200 second on full-frame and 1/250 second on APS-C crop. High-frequency flicker-free shooting reduces banding under artificial light. These sync speeds define the fastest flash use without a mechanical shutter, so studio and event photographers must plan lighting power accordingly.

50.1MP stacked sensor

The Exmor RS sensor with integral memory is the specification that determines if this body fits the workflow. It enables the 30fps burst, 8K full-frame recording and Super 35mm 4K at up to 120fps. Buyers who need higher pixel counts for large-format print or slower readout for different rolling-shutter behaviour should evaluate other options.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 50.1MP version or a lower-resolution body?

The A1 is offered only with the 50.1MP full-frame stacked sensor, so there is no lower-resolution option to select.

What does the 30fps blackout-free rate mean when I am actually shooting?

You can capture up to 30 frames per second with continuous autofocus and auto-exposure while the viewfinder stays live, thanks to the sensor's ultra-fast readout and the BIONZ XR engine.

How fast can the electronic shutter sync with flash in full-frame mode?

The electronic shutter synchronises with flash at up to 1/200 second when using the full-frame sensor area.
