STARTECH 9FMNM3MRS232CABLE 3m RS232 crossover serial cable

SKU CH-0W25-4P3FC MPN 9FMNM3MRS232CABLE

A 3-meter RS232 crossover serial cable with male and female DB9 connectors, aluminium-mylar shielding and thumbscrew locks for secure device links

  • 3 m length for flexible serial device placement
  • Crossover wiring connects serial devices directly
  • Aluminium mylar shielding reduces electromagnetic interference
  • Thumbscrew locks prevent accidental disconnection
  • Lifetime backing with 24/5 multilingual support

Serial cable for legacy device links

This 3-metre RS-232 crossover cable connects serial equipment directly without a modem. Male and female DB9 ends suit point-to-point links between industrial controllers, networking gear or older PCs. The null-modem wiring crosses transmit and receive lines so data flows correctly between two DTE ports.

Shielding and locking screws improve reliability

Aluminium-Mylar foil wrapping and metal-shell connectors reduce electromagnetic interference in electrically noisy environments. Thumbscrew locks on each end hold the connection firm, preventing accidental unplugging that could corrupt a transfer or halt a machine.

Distance and speed limits of the RS-232 interface

The standard specifies reliable operation over short runs; this cable reaches the practical 3-metre maximum. Longer links or higher baud rates risk signal degradation because the interface uses unbalanced, single-ended signalling without the differential pairs found in modern serial buses.

Questions about this item

Will the DB9 thumbscrew locks need periodic tightening or replacement?

The thumbscrew locks are integral to the shielded metal shell connectors and are designed to stay secure for the cable's lifetime.

What limits signal integrity when the cable runs at its full 3 metre length?

Aluminium mylar shielding and shielded metal shell connectors mitigate EMI to maintain signal integrity across the full length.

Does the cable generate any heat or draw power during continuous all-day serial use?

As a passive copper cable it draws no power and produces no measurable heat during continuous operation.
