Connects a DVI-I display to a VGA video card using a 29-pin female DVI and 15-pin male VGA connector with nickel-plated thumbscrews
The StarTech.com DVIVGAFM converts a DVI-I female port to a VGA male plug, letting you connect a DVI-I display to a graphics card with a VGA output. Nickel-plated contacts and moulded thumbscrews give a secure, low-resistance link for analogue video signals.
Because the adapter passes only the analogue pins of the DVI-I interface, image quality depends on the source card's DAC and the cable length you add. No active circuitry means there is no latency or power draw, so the link behaves exactly like a native VGA connection under any sustained load.
The 29-pin DVI-I connector carries both digital and analogue signals, but this adapter routes only the 15 analogue pins to the high-density D-Sub plug. Digital-only DVI-D sources or displays cannot work through it, and resolutions are bounded by the VGA standard's analogue bandwidth.
