Adds a DB-9 serial port to a PC rear panel from a 10-pin motherboard header using a 15.98 in cable
The StarTech PLATE9M16 connects a motherboard 10-pin IDC header to a DB-9 male serial port on a bracket plate. It adds a legacy COM port to the rear of a PC without using an expansion slot. The cable is 406 mm long and coloured grey. The assembly weighs 0.08 kg.
Connector A is a DB-9 male D-Sub; Connector B is a 10-pin IDC female header. Wiring follows the Apex10-Everex-Intel specification. No other pinout is supported. Verify your motherboard header matches this layout before ordering.
Builders restoring serial connectivity on boards that still expose a 10-pin header will find this a direct fit. Systems lacking that header, or needing a different pin arrangement, cannot use this adapter. Buyers who want more ports or a USB alternative should look elsewhere.

The 10-pin IDC female connector plugs directly into a standard motherboard serial header, routing the DB-9 signals through the 15.98 in cable to the rear bracket.
The specification defines the pin-out between the DB-9 male and the 10-pin IDC header; it does not impose a maximum baud rate, so the port runs at whatever speed the motherboard UART supports.
The 15.98 in ribbon provides enough length to route from a bottom-row header to a full-height bracket without tension, adding only 1.10 lb to the assembly.
