Connects a motherboard serial header to a panel-mount DB-9 port over 13 ft
The StarTech PNL9M16 converts a motherboard 10 pin IDC serial header into a panel-mountable DB-9 male RS232 port. It suits system builders and IT technicians who need to add a legacy serial interface to a modern chassis or rack enclosure.
The cable terminates in a 10 pin IDC female connector that mates directly with the motherboard header, while the opposite end presents a standard 9 pin serial male connector for external devices. No additional adapters are required for this pin arrangement.
At 13 ft the gray cable provides generous routing length for full-tower cases, server racks or wall-mounted panels. The 0.05 kg weight adds negligible strain on the header, though very long runs beyond this length may introduce signal degradation.
Measured against everything we stock in SATA, IDE & M.2 Drive Adapters, at today’s prices. Recalculated every night.

The 13 ft span gives plenty of slack to reach from a rear panel cutout to an internal header even in a full-tower case, and the excess can be coiled without strain on the IDC crimp.
It plugs straight onto a standard 10-pin serial header labelled COM or JCOM on the board, carrying the RS-232 signals to the DB-9 male port.
The DB-9 male connector requires a standard D-sub 9 cutout; the flange sits flush with the panel and the two mounting holes accept the case screws.
