Four-Computer DisplayPort KVM

The StarTech SV431DPU3A2 connects four DisplayPort-equipped computers to one monitor, keyboard and mouse. A built-in USB 3.0 hub provides four Type-A ports for shared peripherals such as drives, printers or cameras. Audio switching is handled through 3.5 mm stereo jacks on each host and the console. The unit draws power from an included 12 V 1.5 A external supply.

Suits multi-system workstations

Operators who need to control several desktops or servers from a single 4K 30 Hz display will benefit. Users requiring 4K at 60 Hz, HDR or high-refresh gaming should look elsewhere. The switch only supports DisplayPort video inputs, so systems with HDMI, DVI or VGA outputs cannot be connected without active adapters not supplied.

Simple desktop setup

Connect each computer with a DisplayPort cable, a USB 3.0 Type-B cable and a 3.5 mm audio cable, then attach the console peripherals to the front ports. Switching is done by front-panel push buttons or configurable hot-key sequences. Common issues include forgetting the USB Type-B link, which leaves the shared hub inactive, and exceeding the 30 Hz limit at 3840×2160.

Questions about this item

My four computers only have HDMI outputs — can I connect them to the DisplayPort inputs on this KVM?

The unit provides four DisplayPort inputs; HDMI sources would need an active HDMI-to-DisplayPort converter for each computer.

I plan to keep my older 1080p monitor — will the switch downscale 4K sources to 1920x1080 automatically?

Yes, 1920x1080 is a supported resolution and the switch will pass that signal to the monitor.

After cabling everything, how do I confirm the USB 3.0 hub is running at 5 Gbps rather than falling back to USB 2.0?

Check Device Manager on the active computer; the hub should appear as a USB 3.0 root hub and connected peripherals will show SuperSpeed.
