Adds two USB 2.0 Type-A ports to a case bracket via 11.25 inch cables that connect to 4- or 5-pin motherboard headers
The StarTech USBPLATE adds two USB A female ports to a desktop computer by connecting to an internal motherboard header. A black metal plate mounts in a rear expansion slot and carries 11.25 inch cables that terminate in IDC connectors for 4 or 5 pin headers.
This adapter suits system builders who need extra external USB connections and have a free internal header. It does not suit users who require USB 3.0 or higher speeds, nor those whose motherboards lack a compatible 4 or 5 pin header.
The device operates under the USB 2.0 specification through a 285.75mm cable assembly that supports single row 8 or 10 pin layouts as well as dual row 4 or 5 pin layouts. Weighing 0.11 units, it provides a straightforward way to extend USB connectivity to a case bracket.

The IDC connectors are soldered to the 285.75mm cables and are not user-serviceable; if a pin bends or a cable frays the whole adapter would be replaced.
Both ports share one motherboard header, so the USB 2.0 bus bandwidth is the bottleneck during simultaneous transfers.
It is a passive plate with 0.11 kg weight and no active components, so it adds no measurable heat or power draw beyond the connected devices.
