TrueMove Core sensor & 8500 DPI

The SteelSeries Rival 3 Gen 2 is a wired gaming mouse built around a TrueMove Core optical sensor that delivers true 1:1 tracking at up to 8500 DPI. It connects via USB and weighs 77g, making it suitable for right-handed players who prefer palm or claw grips. Three-zone Prism RGB lighting adds customisable illumination.

1.35ms click latency & 60M click switches

Under sustained use the mouse maintains a 1.35ms click latency and 1000Hz polling rate, keeping response consistent during long sessions. Switches are rated for 60 million clicks, while the 77g symmetrical shell and 100% PTFE feet reduce drag and wrist strain over time. The flexible braided cable further supports smooth, uninterrupted movement.

USB interface limits

The USB connection caps polling at 1000Hz and carries both power and data without a separate receiver. Cable length and desktop space set the practical range, and the wired link means no battery management or wireless interference. RGB control and DPI steps rely on the SteelSeries Engine software running on the host system.

Questions about this item

Does the 1.35 ms click latency or the 1000 Hz polling rate make the mouse run hotter or use more power during long sessions?

The Rival 3 Gen 2 draws power only through its wired USB connection; the 1.35 ms latency and 1000 Hz polling add no measurable heat or extra draw for all-day use.

What must I already own so the 3-zone Prism RGB and DPI settings can be configured?

A Windows or macOS PC with a free USB port and the SteelSeries Engine software installed is required to customise the 3-zone RGB lighting and 100-8500 DPI steps.

Will the 77 g weight and PTFE feet feel different on the cloth pad I have used with heavier mice?

At 77 g with 100 % PTFE feet the mouse glides noticeably faster and with less drag than heavier models, so your existing cloth pad will feel smoother immediately.
