LGA 1200 server board for 10th Gen Intel Core

The Supermicro MBD-X12SCZ-QF-O is a Micro ATX server motherboard built around the Intel Q470 chipset and LGA 1200 socket. It supports 10th Generation Intel Core i9, i7, i5, i3, Pentium and Celeron processors with a TDP up to 125W. The board targets builders assembling compact servers or workstations that require dual Gigabit LAN and IPMI graphics.

Dual M.2 slots and RAID-capable SATA

One M.2 M-key slot accepts SATA or PCI-E 3.0 x4 drives in 2280 or 22110 form factors, while an E-key slot provides CNVi or PCI-E 3.0 x1 connectivity for 2230 wireless modules. Four SATA 6.0Gb/s ports support RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10, giving integrators flexible storage topologies without an additional controller card.

Standard Micro ATX layout with IPMI graphics

The board fits standard Micro ATX chassis and uses a 24-pin ATX plus 8-pin EPS power input. The Aspeed AST2500 BMC provides VGA, dual DisplayPort++ and DVI-D video outputs for headless management. Installers must populate DDR4-2933 UDIMMs in the four 288-pin slots to reach the 128GB maximum; ECC and registered modules are not supported.

Questions about this item

How long do the DDR4 2933 UDIMMs typically last before they need replacement?

DDR4 UDIMMs are solid-state and have no moving parts; they generally last the useful life of the server unless a module fails, in which case only the faulty stick is swapped.

Which component hits its thermal ceiling first when the 125 W CPU runs at full load continuously?

The LGA 1200 socket is rated for CPUs up to 125 W TDP, so the processor itself becomes the thermal limit; adequate case airflow and a properly seated cooler keep it within spec.

How loud and hot does the board get when both Intel I210-AT and I219-LM ports push 1 Gbps traffic all day?

The LAN controllers are low-power PHYs; they add minimal heat and produce no audible noise, so system acoustics and temperatures depend almost entirely on the CPU cooler and chassis fans.
