The Tackston adapter converts a digital optical (TOSLINK) output into a 3.5 mm analogue jack so you can connect headphones or powered speakers directly to a television. It supports sample rates of 32, 44.1, 48, 96 and 192 kHz at 24-bit resolution. The 5 ft (162 cm) cable includes a USB power lead that must be connected to a 5 V port for operation. Volume is controlled on the playback device, not the TV remote.

This unit works when the TV is set to PCM or stereo output, making it ideal for late-night headphone listening or assisting hearing-impaired users. It cannot decode Dolby Digital or DTS bitstreams, so buyers who need multichannel pass-through should look at a different solution. The signal path is unidirectional from optical to analogue only.
