Universal Drive Adapter
The TeKit NTRC100106W connects 2.5-inch, 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch SATA or IDE hard drives and optical drives to a computer through a USB 2.0 port. It is intended for technicians and hobbyists who need to recover data or repurpose legacy storage without installing it inside a case.
USB 2.0 Speed Limit
The interface caps transfer rates at 480 Mb/s, so mechanical drives will not reach their native throughput and large archives move slowly. The adapter draws power from the bus for smaller drives, but 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch units require their own supply which is not included. Drives larger than 320 GB are not supported by the bridge electronics.
Compact Cable Build
A 3 ft black cable keeps the work area tidy while the integrated converter heads eliminate loose dongles. Hot-swap capability lets you change drives without rebooting, and the plug-and-play design works on Windows 2000 through Vista and Mac OS without drivers. Jumper pins on IDE devices must be set to master before use.

Questions about this item
Should I pick the 2.5, 3.5 or 5.25 inch connector for my drive?
The adapter includes all three connectors in one cable, so you simply attach the one that matches your drive’s form factor — 2.5-inch laptop drives, 3.5-inch desktop drives or 5.25-inch optical drives up to 320G.
What does the 480 Mb/s transfer rate mean when I copy files?
480 Mb/s is the theoretical USB 2.0 ceiling; real-world throughput will be lower due to protocol overhead and the drive’s own speed, but it is sufficient for moving documents, photos and backups from legacy drives.
Does the USB 2.0 interface limit the speed of a SATA drive?
Yes — the USB 2.0 link caps at 480 Mb/s, so any SATA drive connected through this adapter will run at USB 2.0 speeds rather than its native SATA rate.
