What this cable is and who needs it

This seven-foot orange Cat6 patch cable connects routers, switches, computers and other RJ45 devices at gigabit speeds. It suits home offices, small-business networks and anyone who wants a colour-coded run for easy identification. Builders who need longer runs, outdoor-rated jackets or shielded connectors should look elsewhere.

Installing the cable and common pitfalls

The snagless moulded boots protect the locking tabs while you route the cable through tight spaces, and the staggered-pin plugs keep near-end crosstalk low. Simply push each RJ45 connector until it clicks. The only frequent issue is forcing a boot past a crowded port, which can bend the tab; angle the plug straight in to avoid damage.

The spec that decides fit

The cable is rated for Category 6 performance at a length of seven feet. If your installation requires a different reach, a higher category rating or a different jacket colour, this part will not match the requirement.
