40-channel CB radio with noise-cancelling microphone, seven-colour backlit display, dynamic squelch and variable mic gain for clear 4-watt communication
The Uniden Bearcat 880 is a 40-channel CB radio operating on FCC-approved AM frequencies between 26.965 and 27.405 MHz. It provides 4 watts of RF output and up to 5 watts of audio power. A PA/CB switch lets the unit drive an external speaker for public-address use. The 6-pin noise-cancelling microphone reduces background interference for clearer voice transmission.
The radio runs on a 13.8 VDC supply and draws modest current during typical voice use. The front-mounted speaker delivers up to 5 watts of audio without audible strain. Dynamic squelch control and the automatic noise limiter suppress static and ignition noise, keeping the receive chain quiet. No cooling fan is present, so operation is silent apart from audio output.
The package includes a 6-pin noise-cancelling microphone with variable gain and an extra-long coiled cord for flexible positioning. A dimmer switch and seven selectable backlight colours adapt the display and control knobs to day or night driving. Wireless microphone compatibility allows an optional cordless mic to be paired without wiring changes. The digital S/RF/CAL/SWR meter aids antenna tuning directly from the front panel.

Connect the radio to a 13.8 VDC power source using the supplied leads, matching red to positive and black to negative; the step often missed is securing a clean chassis ground directly to the battery negative or a verified ground point rather than relying on the mounting bracket.
Periodically check the 6-pin microphone connector and coiled cord for wear, clean the front-panel knobs and display lens with a soft dry cloth, and verify the SWR reading on the digital meter remains low after any antenna work.
The 4-watt RF output limit set by FCC rules is reached immediately on each transmission, so sustained use is constrained by duty cycle and heat buildup in the final amplifier rather than a higher power ceiling.
