Portable AM/FM Weather Alert Radio

The Sangean PR-D9W is a compact rechargeable radio for listeners who want AM and FM reception plus certified NOAA weather alerts. It suits outdoor activities such as camping or sporting events and serves as a reliable bedside unit during power outages. The built-in dual alarm clock with Humane Wake System and 19 station presets add daily convenience. A lock switch prevents accidental changes while moving.

Thermals Noise and Power Draw

The 2.25 inch speaker delivers 0.5W output for clear indoor or patio listening. Power comes from alkaline cells or rechargeable NiMH batteries charged rapidly inside the unit via the 9V DC 500mA input. A super capacitor maintains clock time and memory presets during battery changes. The 3.5mm headphone jack allows private listening without speaker noise.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Continuous weather-band monitoring and alert siren function remain active during extended emergencies. The large LCD backlight with adjustable illumination stays readable over long periods without draining reserves quickly. Random auto scan tuning finds available stations efficiently when reception conditions shift. The radio measures 6.3 x 4.2 x 1.4 inches and weighs 12.5 oz for easy transport.

Questions about this item

How do I install the rechargeable batteries and what step do people often miss?

Insert NiMH AA cells matching the battery selector setting, then plug the 9 V 500 mA DC adaptor to activate the rapid charger; the super-capacitor preserves clock and presets during the swap.

What maintenance will the radio need later?

Replace the NiMH cells when they no longer hold a charge; the super-capacitor that backs up the clock and 19 presets is maintenance-free.

What limit appears first during extended weather-alert monitoring?

The 0.5 W speaker output and 2.25-inch driver set the practical listening distance before distortion becomes noticeable.
