Converts RS-232 to RS-422/485 with 2500Vrms isolation and 600W surge protection per wire
The UT-206 translates single-ended RS-232C signals into balanced differential RS-422 or RS-485 data streams. It connects a DB9 female RS-232 port to a DB9 male RS-422/485 interface. Optoelectronic isolation rated at 2500Vrms and 500V DC continuous separates the two sides. This unit serves industrial automation, instrumentation and long-distance serial links where ground loops or noise corrupt standard RS-232 runs.
The converter is deployed when cable length exceeds RS-232 limits or when equipment operates in electrically noisy environments. It upgrades a point-to-point link to a multi-drop RS-485 bus or a full-duplex RS-422 pair without changing host software. The jump is worth it when surge events, lightning transients or ground-potential differences threaten the serial port. Built-in TVS devices clamp 600W per wire on the RS-422/485 side to absorb high-energy spikes.
Differential signalling extends reach but the converter cannot overcome bus physics such as termination requirements, stub-length limits or maximum node counts defined by the EIA/TIA standards. Isolation voltage is capped at 2500Vrms; sustained faults above that level will breach the barrier. The 600W surge rating protects against transient overvoltage, not continuous overcurrent. Asynchronous operation assumes matched baud rates and compatible framing on both ports.

| Brand name | UOTEK |
| Model name | UT-206 |
| Product type | CONVERTER |
| Ports & slots | |
| First connector | DB9 FEMALE |
| Second connector | DB9 MALE |
The RS-422/485 side uses a DB9 male connector, so you need a cable with a DB9 female end to plug into it.
No driver is required; the converter is hardware-based and works as a transparent serial link once the DB9 female RS-232 and DB9 male RS-422/485 cables are connected.
The optoelectronic isolator and TVS surge suppressors are solid-state components with no serviceable parts; they do not wear out under normal operation and require no scheduled replacement.
