Industrial serial converter

The UOTEK UT-218 converts RS-232 signals to RS-485 or RS-422 differential outputs using a DB9 female input and DB9 male or RJ45 output. It targets engineers integrating legacy serial equipment into industrial networks that require balanced differential signalling. The unit operates without external flow control signals and supports asynchronous half-duplex or full-duplex modes without jumper changes.

Interface limits

The converter handles baud rates from 300bps to 115.2Kbps and supports up to 128 RS-485 or RS-422 devices on a single bus. Maximum transmission distance reaches 5,000m at 9,600bps over twisted-pair or shielded cable. Automatic data direction control removes the need for RTS management, while 2.5KV rms isolation and ±15KV ESD protection guard each line against surges.

Build and connectivity

The compact enclosure measures 97×65×22mm and operates from -40 to 85 Celsius in 5% to 95% relative humidity. A built-in DC/DC module provides enhanced isolation, and LED indicators show power, data flow and failure status. DB9 and RJ45 connectors allow direct cabling to industrial terminals or patch panels, and the plug-and-play design works with all communication software across every supported operating system.
