Adds an RS-232 serial port to a USB-C device using an FTDI chip with full modem control, LED TxD/RxD indicators and 25 cm cable
This USBGear USBG-232-C adapter adds a single RS-232 serial port to any computer with a USB-C socket. It targets engineers, technicians and hobbyists who must talk to industrial controllers, networking gear or scientific instruments that still use a DE-9 connector. The FTDI chipset ensures broad driver support on Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista without hunting for third-party downloads. Buyers who need multiple simultaneous ports or a USB-A host connection should look elsewhere.
The 25 cm cable is permanently attached, so there is no separate cable to lose or mis-seat. Windows recognises the device as a standard COM port once the Microsoft-certified FTDI driver loads automatically. The only common snag is forgetting to match the baud rate, parity and flow-control settings in the terminal software to the target equipment. LED indicators for TxD and RxD give immediate visual feedback when data moves.
Verify that your machine has a free USB-C port; the adapter will not fit USB-A without a separate passive gender changer, which is not included. Confirm the operating system is Windows 10, 8, 7 or Vista — other platforms are not covered by the supplied driver. Ensure the serial device uses standard RS-232 voltage levels and a DE-9 pin-out; TTL or proprietary pin assignments will not work. The 30 day guarantee covers functional defects only.

The adapter shows two LEDs labelled TxD and RxD; both flash when data moves across the serial link, giving immediate visual proof the port is active.
The box contains the black USB-C to DB9 cable assembly with a 25 cm lead and the FTDI chip inside; no external power supply is needed, and Windows drivers install automatically.
The single model USBG-232-C adds one RS-232 port via USB-C, supports baud rates up to 921.6K bps, and is validated for Windows 10, 8 and 7.
