Purpose-built desktop

The Velztorm Pilum is a pre-assembled gaming desktop built around an 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor running at 3.6 GHz with a 4.4 GHz boost. It targets players who want a ready-to-run Windows 10 Pro system for 1080p gaming and everyday multitasking without selecting parts themselves.

Connections and cooling

A 120 mm AIO liquid cooler with RGB lighting keeps the CPU thermals in check inside the black chassis. The rear I/O supplies USB 3.1 Gen1, five USB 3.0 Type-A ports, four USB 2.0 ports, USB 3.1 Type-C Gen1, HDMI, DisplayPort, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi and separate microphone and headphone jacks for headsets.

Upgrade path

The 2 TB PCIe NVMe SSD and 6 TB 3.5-inch hard drive give a large combined pool for games and media, while the 16 GB DDR4 baseline can be expanded to 128 GB using the board's DIMM slots. Buyers who need more GPU memory than the 6 GB GDDR6 on the GTX 1660 Super or who require Bluetooth connectivity will need a different configuration.

Questions about this item

What PCIe generation does the GTX 1660 Super use, and what bandwidth does that cap the GPU at?

The GTX 1660 Super runs on PCIe 3.0 x16, limiting the graphics card to approximately 16 GB/s of host-to-device bandwidth in practice.

What clearance does the 120 mm AIO liquid cooler require inside the case?

The 120 mm radiator needs a single 120 mm fan mount, typically at the rear or top exhaust, with enough depth for the radiator plus fan.

How is Windows 10 Pro activated on this system, and what step do buyers often miss?

Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed and activates automatically on first internet connection; the step buyers miss is connecting to the internet before personalising the desktop.
