What It Is

The VideoSecu VB202P-N1 is a pair of passive video baluns that convert a BNC signal to run over ordinary twisted-pair cable such as Cat 5. Installers and system integrators use them to extend CCTV camera feeds without coaxial cable.

Who It Suits

Installers who want lower cable cost, faster termination and better EMI and RFI rejection than coax provide. Not for runs that exceed 1 000 feet for monochrome or 800 feet for colour, and not for users who need active amplification or powered signal conditioning.

Distance Limit

Monochrome video reaches 1 000 feet and colour video reaches 800 feet over a single twisted pair, so the maximum transmission distance is the specification that decides whether this balun pair fits the project.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and do I need to buy anything else to connect a camera?

The package contains one pair of passive video baluns — two units with BNC male connectors and terminal blocks for twisted-pair wire. You will need Cat 5 or similar UTP cable to link them, but no external power supply is required.

How do I decide which balun to use for a colour camera run?

This single model handles colour video up to 800 feet and monochrome up to 1,000 feet over UTP cable, so the same unit covers both scenarios; choose it if your colour run is within 800 feet.

What does the 1,000-foot monochrome distance mean in a real installation?

It is the maximum reach for a black-and-white signal over standard twisted-pair cable with these passive baluns; actual distance can be lower depending on cable quality, interference and the number of connections in the run.
