Passive Video Balun Kit

The VideoSecu VB21410 kit contains ten passive baluns that convert standard CCTV camera signals for transmission over ordinary twisted pair cabling. Installers and system integrators use them to replace coaxial runs with lighter, easier-to-terminate Cat5 infrastructure. No external power is required at either end of the link.

Transmission Distance and Limits

Each pair transmits monochrome video up to 1,000 feet or colour video up to 800 feet over Cat5 cable while rejecting EMI and RFI better than coaxial alternatives. Beyond those distances the signal degrades and the baluns cannot compensate because they contain no active amplification. The kit provides five pairs, so it covers up to five camera channels.

BNC Male to Terminal Block Connection

The decisive specification is the BNC male to screw-terminal interface that accepts bare twisted pair wires without crimping RJ-45 plugs. This makes the baluns suitable for installers who prefer punch-down or screw connections and rules them out for jobs that demand pre-terminated RJ-45 patch leads or powered signal extension.

Questions about this item

Will the VB21410 baluns work with my existing analog CCTV cameras that use BNC connectors?

Yes, each balun has a BNC male connector on one side and a terminal block on the other, so you can connect directly to standard analog cameras without changing the camera ends.

How can I verify the VB21410 baluns are transmitting a clear signal after I wire them to Cat5 cable?

Check the monitor or DVR for a stable picture; monochrome video should reach up to 1000 feet and color up to 800 feet with no external power needed on the baluns.

The pack says 10 pieces — does that include everything I need for five camera runs, or do I need extra connectors?

The box contains 5 pairs (10 total baluns), giving you both a transmitter and receiver for each of five cameras; you only need to supply the Cat5 cable itself.
