What this product is

The VideoSecu VB214P is a passive video balun pair designed to send or receive quality video over ordinary twisted pair cable. It transmits monochrome signals up to 1,000 feet and colour signals up to 800 feet. Passive devices do not require power, making installation straightforward for CCTV security camera systems. The BNC male to terminal block connection avoids the need to crimp RJ-45 connectors.

What to check before ordering

Verify that your cameras and recording equipment use BNC video connections compatible with the terminal block interface. Ensure the cable run distance matches the 1,000 feet monochrome or 800 feet colour limits. Confirm you have or can run Cat5 or similar twisted pair cable between both locations. No external power supply is needed for these passive units.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Suits installers extending analogue CCTV video over structured cabling or new Cat5 runs where coaxial cable is impractical or costly. Ideal for leveraging existing twisted pair infrastructure. Not suitable for IP camera networks requiring Ethernet data transmission. Buyers needing powered signal amplification for longer runs or different connector types should consider active alternatives.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and do I need to buy anything else to connect a camera?

The box contains one pair of VB214P passive video baluns. You will need Cat5 twisted-pair cable to run between them and a power source for the camera itself.

How do I decide which balun to use for a colour camera run versus a monochrome run?

Both baluns are identical; the distance limit depends on the signal type. Colour video reaches 800 feet, while monochrome reaches 1,000 feet over the same Cat5 cable.

What does the 1,000-foot figure mean when I install this in a real CCTV system?

It is the maximum distance for a monochrome video signal over Cat5 cable; for colour the practical limit is 800 feet. Actual range can be shorter if cable quality or interference is poor.
