Purpose and Audience

The Vszerda CON-AV2HDMI-BK converts composite CVBS video and stereo audio from an RCA source into an HDMI 1.3 signal up to 1080p. It is intended for anyone connecting legacy players such as a VHS deck, DVD unit, PS3 or original Xbox to a modern television or projector that lacks analogue inputs.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

The adapter works with standard-definition and high-definition sources up to 1080p and draws power from the included USB cable, so no external supply is needed. It does not accept 4K signals, cannot pass HDR metadata, and will not function with mobile devices such as iPads or smartphones.

Deciding Specification

The converter is one-directional: it only translates RCA composite to HDMI and cannot operate in reverse. If your installation requires sending HDMI out to an RCA display or capture device, this model will not meet that need.

Questions about this item

Does the box include an HDMI cable or only the USB power cable?

The package supplies a USB power cable and the converter itself; an HDMI cable is not included and must be purchased separately.

The listing mentions HDMI 1.3 and 1080p — will this handle 4K sources or only up to 1080p?

The converter supports input resolutions from 480i up to 1080p and explicitly does not support 4K devices.

When the converter is connected to a 1080p TV, does it upscale the CVBS signal or pass it through unchanged?

It converts the CVBS composite signal to an HDMI output at up to 1080p so the TV receives a digital signal it can display.
