This adapter connects a SAS hard drive with an SFF-8482 29-pin port to a SAS-compatible SATA hybrid controller. It also links SATA drives to SATA motherboards and SAS drives to SAS motherboards. It is not for users who need to attach a SAS drive to a standard SATA-only motherboard or a SATA drive to a standard SAS-only motherboard.

The compatibility rule

The cable works only when both ends share the same protocol or when the host controller explicitly supports hybrid SAS/SATA operation. A 6 gigabytes_per_second rated link is provided over copper conductors with male-to-female gender. If your motherboard lacks a SAS chipset, a SAS drive will not function through this adapter.
