This adapter converts a 3.5 inch IDE or PATA 40-pin hard drive, CD-ROM or CD-RW to a SATA interface so it can connect to a modern motherboard. It supports drives up to 1000GB and works with DOS, Windows 98 through Windows 7 and Linux. No extra power supply or driver is required for operation.

Upgrades legacy IDE storage to SATA motherboards

The unit replaces a direct IDE connection when the board only offers SATA ports, letting you keep an existing 3.5 inch drive during a platform refresh. It handles IDE transfer modes at 66, 100 and 133MB/s and is intended for a permanent internal install rather than hot-swap use. Fits a desktop build with a free SATA port
