Adds an M.2 NVMe SSD (2230-2280) to a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot with an aluminium heatsink and LED indicator
This adapter lets you install an M-Key M.2 NVMe solid-state drive into a full-size PCI Express x16 slot. It is built for desktop builders who want to add fast NVMe storage on a motherboard that lacks a dedicated M.2 socket. The card is made from aluminium alloy and includes an LED indicator lamp. No driver installation is required for supported operating systems.
The adapter accepts a physical PCIe x16, x8 or x4 slot but the M.2 interface only carries four lanes. Maximum throughput is therefore limited to PCIe 3.0 x4 speeds regardless of the slot width used. SATA-protocol M.2 drives are not supported and will not function in this card. The board draws power directly from the PCIe slot without an external connector.
The single specification that decides compatibility is the M-Key NVMe requirement. Only NVMe protocol drives with an M-Key notch will work; B-Key or B+M-Key SATA drives are electrically incompatible. Supported drive lengths are 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280. The package includes one expansion card weighing 15g.

The adapter fits 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 M-Key NVMe modules.
The drive is limited to PCIe 3.0 x4 bandwidth because the adapter provides a four-lane electrical connection.
No, the slot is mechanically x16 but electrically wired for x4, so the drive caps at x4 throughput.
