Connects a U.2 SFF-8639 NVME drive to an MCIO 4x port at 56 GT/s over 50 cm, supporting PCIe 5.0/4.0/3.0 x4
This 50 cm cable adds a single MCIO 4x interface to a mainboard, allowing connection of a U.2 SFF-8639 NVME SSD through an optional adapter. It carries PCI Express signals using the x4 protocol at up to 56 GT/s. The assembly targets builders who need to extend storage connectivity inside a server or workstation chassis. It is not for buyers who want a drive included or who require a different connector type.
Use this cord when the motherboard lacks a native U.2 header but exposes an MCIO 4x receptacle, or when routing a drive to a backplane demands a flexible 50 cm link. The jump is worth it if the platform supports PCIe 5.0 x4 and the workload can saturate 56 GT/s; otherwise a Gen 3 or 4 link will simply run at the lower speed. It is not for systems without an MCIO slot or for installations that need a longer or shorter reach.
Plug the MCIO 4x end into the board and the SFF-8639 end into the drive or backplane; no drivers or firmware are involved. The cable-only package means an adapter card must be sourced separately if the drive lacks a native U.2 connector. Common issues include forgetting the adapter, exceeding the 50 cm length in large enclosures, or mating the keyed MCIO plug upside down. It is not for tool-less toolless trays that require a different latch style.

The cable uses an MCIO 4x connector, so the board must provide a matching 4-lane MCIO slot.
Connect the MCIO 4x end to the motherboard first, then attach the U.2 SFF-8639 end to the drive; reversing the order can bend the finer MCIO pins.
Replace it if the link drops from 56 GT/s to a lower speed or if the latch on either the MCIO 4x or U.2 SFF-8639 connector no longer holds firmly.
