Connection Layout

This cable breaks out a single Mini SAS SFF-8087 male connector into four right-angle SATA 7-pin female connectors. It is built for installers who need to link a SAS RAID controller or HBA to up to four SATA hard drives or SSDs inside a chassis.

Critical Direction

The SFF-8087 end must plug into the host controller; connecting it to a backplane will prevent the link from working. Data moves at up to 6 Gbps per drive over 30 AWG copper conductors wrapped in a braided sleeve.

Installer Fit

Suits DIY builders and professionals expanding internal storage with a SAS host adapter. Not for users who need a backplane-side SFF-8087 connection or who require straight SATA plugs instead of the 90-degree angle.

Questions about this item

Will each drive actually run at the stated 6 Gbps once the cable is installed in my system?

Yes, the breakout is rated for 6 Gbps per SATA lane, so every connected drive can operate at full SATA III speed.

Does the SFF-8087 end limit total throughput when four drives are active at once?

The host connector provides four independent 6 Gbps channels, so aggregate bandwidth scales with the number of drives in use.

How much clearance do the 90-degree SATA plugs need behind a backplane or drive cage?

The right-angle design keeps the cable profile low, allowing it to route cleanly in tight chassis spaces.
