Adapts a SATA 15-pin power plug to a Molex 4-pin LP4 socket for 2.5 or 3.5 IDE drives
This SATA-to-Molex adapter lets you power older 2.5 or 3.5 inch IDE hard drives, optical drives and other LP4 devices from a modern ATX or EPS power supply. It bridges the gap when a PSU only offers SATA 15-pin connectors and your hardware still uses the large 4-pin interface. Installation is a simple plug-in with no tools required.
The adapter carries 5V and 12V DC directly from the PSU through a straight-through wiring layout. No active components, fans or circuitry are present, so it adds no audible noise, no measurable thermal load and negligible resistance to the power path. It behaves like a short extension of the existing cable loom.
The compact male SATA plug and female LP4 socket occupy minimal space behind drive cages or in narrow chassis channels. Using this adapter releases a native Molex lead on the PSU for other peripherals while consuming only one SATA power header. Cable length is short enough to avoid clutter but long enough for typical drive-bay placement.

Align the keyed SATA 15-pin male connector with the PSU's SATA power port and press straight in until it clicks; forcing it at an angle is the common mistake that bends the delicate pins inside the housing.
The Molex 4-pin LP4 female connector typically shows wear first because its larger pins and friction-fit design degrade faster than the SATA 15-pin male's tighter, keyed interface during frequent connections.
The 5V/12V DC rating limits total power delivery; sustained draws approaching the connector's current capacity cause voltage drop and heat buildup at the SATA 15-pin male and Molex 4-pin LP4 female junctions first.
