  • 3 ft cable length for flexible routing
  • Works with both SAS and SATA drives

SAS-to-SATA adapter cable for SAS drives

This adapter cable connects a SAS drive to a motherboard SATA port that supports SAS signalling. It includes a 7-inch Molex power lead so the drive receives both data and power from a single assembly. The 2.3 ft length suits typical server or workstation chassis routing.

Requires a SAS-compatible SATA controller

The SFF-8482 connector only functions when the host controller explicitly supports SAS drives on its SATA ports. A standard SATA-only controller will not recognise the drive, so verify the motherboard or RAID card documentation before purchase.

Frees a backplane slot and uses one Molex lead

By converting the SAS device connector directly to a SATA host port, the cable removes the need for a dedicated SAS backplane or HBA bracket. It draws drive power from a single Molex 4-pin connector, leaving other power cables available for additional devices.

Questions about this item

Will a SAS drive run at full 6 Gbps through this adapter on a SATA III port?

The cable supports SATA III 6 Gbps data transfer, so a SAS drive will operate at up to 6 Gbps provided the controller and drive both support that speed.

Does the SFF-8482 connector require a SAS-capable SATA controller to function?

Yes, the host SATA port must be on a controller that explicitly supports SAS drives; a standard SATA-only controller will not recognise the SAS device.

How much clearance do I need for the 2.3 ft data cable and 7 inch Molex power lead?

The data cable is 2.3 ft long and the Molex power lead is 7 inches, so allow at least that much reach from the drive bay to the motherboard and power supply.
