Connects a 12Gb/s SAS controller to four 29-pin SAS/SATA drives with integrated 15-pin power
This cable connects a SAS controller with an SFF-8643 port to four SATA or SAS drives using SFF-8482 connectors. It is intended for builders adding direct-attached storage to a server or workstation. The 12 Gb/s rating supports current SAS and SATA speeds. Buyers who need to connect drives to a backplane SFF-8643 port cannot use this cable.
The assembly terminates in four 29-pin SFF-8482 plugs and a single SFF-8643 host plug with a 15-pin power port. The fan-out design keeps cable routing tidy inside a chassis. The SFF-8643 end must attach to a controller or motherboard port; it will not function when plugged into a backplane.
A 15-pin power connector is integrated on the host side so the controller can supply drive power through the same cable. No additional adapters or software are included. The cable works with any SAS controller that presents an SFF-8643 interface and drives that accept SFF-8482 connections.

The SFF-8643 host connector supports 12Gb/s SAS signalling, so each of the four lanes can reach that speed when the controller and drives also run at 12Gb/s.
It needs a free SFF-8643 port on the controller, four SFF-8482 29-pin drive bays, and a 15-pin SATA power plug from the PSU for the power port.
Plug the SFF-8643 end into the RAID card or motherboard, attach the four SFF-8482 ends to the drives, then connect the 15-pin power port — forgetting the power connection is the common mistake.
