SATA to USB 3.0 adapter for 2.5 and 3.5 drives

This adapter connects a SATA SSD or HDD to a USB port for data migration, cloning, recovery or external storage. It suits technicians and enthusiasts who need quick, driver-free access to bare drives. A 12 V 2 A power supply is included for stable 3.5-inch operation. The cable works with SCSI drives as well.

USB 3.0 interface limits transfer to 5 Gbps

Peak throughput reaches 5 Gbps only when the host controller and drive both support USB 3.0. UASP can raise read speed by 70% and write speed by 40% over standard BOT, but the host must also implement UASP. The adapter falls back to USB 2.0 or 1.1 on older ports, reducing speed accordingly. No driver installation is needed on modern operating systems.

Drive must be formatted for the host OS to assign

Windows only recognises drives formatted with a compatible file system; a new or foreign-formatted drive will not appear until formatted. The adapter itself does not reformat or repair file systems. Users must manage partitioning and formatting through the operating system before data becomes accessible.

Questions about this item

Which SATA drive sizes does this adapter support?

It connects both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA SSDs or HDDs to a USB port, and the included 12 V 2 A power supply is required for 3.5-inch drives.

What real-world speed can I expect from the 5 Gbps rating?

The USB 3.0 link caps at 5 Gbps, and UASP support raises read throughput by 70 % and write throughput by 40 % over the standard bulk protocol, though actual rates depend on the drive itself.

Does the USB 3.0 interface limit performance with faster SATA SSDs?

Yes, the USB 3.0 connection tops out at 5 Gbps, so drives capable of SATA III 6 Gbps will be bottlenecked by the adapter’s interface.
