PCIe 3.0 x4 card adds a U.2 SFF-8639 port for NVMe SSDs on Windows or Linux systems
This adapter connects a U.2 SFF-8639 NVME SSD to a PCIe 3.0 4X slot. It enables high-speed storage on desktop systems that lack a native U.2 port. The card supports Windows 7, 8, 10 and Linux operating systems. Builders adding fast NVME storage without an M.2 slot will find it useful.
Suits systems with a free PCIe 3.0 4X slot and NVME-aware BIOS or UEFI. Windows 10 is recommended for full speed; Windows 7 requires a driver and cannot reach peak throughput. Boards without NVME protocol support can only use the drive as secondary storage, not as a boot device. Older chipsets such as B85 or Z87 may need a BIOS update and hands-on configuration.
The PCIe 3.0 4X host interface is the single specification that determines fit. Your motherboard must provide a PCIe 3.0 4X slot and NVME boot support for the SSD to work as intended.

A free PCIe x4 or wider slot (gen 3.0 or newer) provides the four lanes the adapter needs.
Yes — B250, B150, H170 and Z170 chipsets generally support NVME boot when the BIOS is current.
Check the link width and speed in the OS device manager or a tool such as NVMe-cli; it should show x4 and gen 3.0.
