Connects a 2.5-inch 44-pin IDE drive to a 22-pin SATA port for laptop or desktop upgrades
This adapter lets you attach a 2.5-inch IDE drive with a 44-pin connector to a system that only offers a SATA port. It is intended for anyone upgrading an older laptop or desktop that still uses the 44-pin IDE interface and wants to keep the existing drive.
The board provides a direct 22-pin male SATA connection to the 44-pin female IDE socket without an active bridge chip. Throughput will follow the native limits of the attached IDE drive and the host SATA controller rather than a burst-rated converter.
Verify that the target machine has a standard SATA data and power port and that the 2.5-inch drive uses the 44-pin IDE layout. The adapter does not supply additional power, so the host must provide the correct voltage for the drive. Systems needing a 3.5-inch form factor or a different pin count will not be compatible.

The adapter is a passive 44-pin IDE to 22-pin SATA converter with no active circuitry, so it adds no measurable power draw or heat beyond the drive itself.
You need a free 22-pin SATA port (7+15 pin) on the motherboard or a SATA controller; the adapter supplies the 44-pin female IDE socket for the drive.
Yes, the supplier lists compatibility with MS Windows 98, NT, ME, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, DOS, Mac and Linux.
