5 TB portable storage for Windows users

This Western Digital Elements drive provides 5 TB of external storage in a 2.5 inch form factor. It connects through a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Micro-B interface and is formatted NTFS for Windows 10 and later. The compact enclosure measures 0.82 by 3.23 by 4.35 inches and weighs 0.52 lb.

Suited to laptop owners needing extra space

It suits users who want to offload large media libraries or backups from a nearly full internal drive. The drive is bus-powered and works with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports. Buyers who need hardware encryption, ruggedised casing or a USB-C native connection should look at something else.

5 TB capacity with USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds

The 5 TB capacity holds extensive photo, video and document collections with room for system images. Transfer rates reach the USB 3.2 Gen 1 5 Gbps limit when connected to a compatible port. Performance drops to USB 2.0 speeds on older ports, and mechanical latency limits random access compared with solid-state alternatives.
