Extends USB 2.0 signals up to 100 metres over CAT6 or 20 kilometres over fibre with four ports and UK plug
This adapter pair extends USB 2.0 signals up to 100 metres over CAT6 cable or 20 kilometres over single-mode fibre. It supports low-speed, full-speed and high-speed USB devices and includes remote power control for the host system. The transmitter and receiver work together without configuration.
The compact units operate without active cooling and draw minimal power from the USB bus. Normal use produces no audible noise and negligible heat, making them suitable for continuous operation in quiet environments. Power is supplied via the included UK plug adapter.
Each unit provides four USB 2.0 ports and an RJ45 connector for CAT6 cabling or an FC interface for fibre. The extender frees the host computer from the immediate workspace, allowing cameras or peripherals to be placed at distance. A standard UK mains outlet is required at each end for the power adapters.

Connect the local unit to the host PC via USB, link the remote unit to up to four USB 2.0 devices, then run a single CAT-5E/6 cable wired to the IEEE-568B standard or a single FC fibre between the two units; the step often missed is using the correct 568B wiring on the RJ45 plugs.
The extender units have no user-serviceable parts; maintenance is limited to checking that the CAT-5E/6 or fibre links remain clean and securely seated, and replacing any damaged cables or power adapters if they fail.
The USB 2.0 signalling rate caps throughput, and low-speed control traffic is restricted to 1 byte per second, so sustained high-speed device traffic will saturate the USB 2.0 bandwidth before the 100 m copper or 20 km fibre distance limits become a factor.
