Start with the vehicle and let it set the rest

Everything in this area hangs on the vehicle. Drones and RC cars, boats, airplanes and robots set the type of battery, the charger, the radio, the servos and the motors they can use. The sub-categories follow that chain: complete drones and toys, power, control gear, motors and servos, and accessories or spares. Decide whether you want a ready-to-run toy, an almost-ready kit or an unassembled hobby build, because that choice sets how many separate parts you must buy and match.

Begin with camera drones and mini drones if you want something to fly, and look at LiPo battery packs and chargers as soon as you need to power or replace the pack. Drones may also be subject to registration and flying rules where you live, so check the local requirements before the first flight.

The compatibility chain from battery to receiver

Batteries are where mistakes happen. LiPo packs are described by cell count, voltage, capacity and connector: a 3.7 V cell, a 7.4 V two-cell pack and an 11.1 V three-cell pack are not interchangeable, and the plug must match the model or be changed by someone who can solder. Use a charger made for the chemistry, preferably one that balances cells, and never charge unattended. Store packs partly charged, and retire any that swell.

Control gear has to agree as well. A transmitter and receiver must use the same radio protocol and be bound together, and the 2.4 GHz band is the usual choice for toys and hobby models. Servos are chosen by torque, speed, size and signal type, and a servo rated for a heavy car may be too slow or large for a small plane. Motors, gears and propellers must match the model's mounting and rotation direction.

Questions about RC Toys, Drones and Hobby Parts

Is a toy drone the same as a camera drone?
No. Toy drones are small and simple, made for short indoor or backyard flights. Camera drones typically add GPS, stabilized cameras and longer flight times, and they carry stricter flying rules. Check the listing's flight time, stabilization and positioning details to see which type it is.
Can I use any battery in my RC model?
No. Match the cell count and voltage, the connector and the capacity range the model allows. A pack with the wrong voltage can damage the electronics or motor. Check the model's manual and use only a charger designed for the pack's chemistry.
What does almost ready to fly mean?
It means the model comes mostly built but still needs a few items, commonly a transmitter, receiver, battery or charger, before it can fly. An unassembled kit needs building as well. Read the included-items list so you know what to add.
