Workstation for heavy compute

This new tower workstation pairs a 32-core AMD Threadripper 9970X with 128GB of DDR5 ECC memory. It targets professionals who run large simulations, render farms or multi-VM workloads that demand high core counts and error-correcting RAM. The system ships with Windows 11 Pro installed.

Storage and GPU interface limits

Three Samsung 990 PRO NVMe drives deliver up to 7450 MB/s reads and 6900 MB/s writes over PCIe 4.0 x4. A 10TB SATA III hard drive adds bulk capacity at SATA speeds. The Nvidia RTX A400 4GB card provides baseline display output and light GPU acceleration only.

Platform and power checks before ordering

Verify that your workflow can use the sTR5 platform and that the 1200W 80 PLUS Gold PSU meets your continuous load expectations. The Corsair 5000D Frame case measures 520 x 245 x 520 mm and includes front and rear 120mm fans. Ensure your workspace accommodates these dimensions and the 360mm liquid cooler radiator.

Questions about this item

How do I choose between the three NVMe SSDs listed for this workstation?

The workstation includes three Samsung 990 PRO drives: a 2 TB unit and two 4 TB units, all PCIe 4.0 x4 with up to 7450 MB/s read and 6900 MB/s write. Use the 2 TB drive for the operating system and active projects, and the two 4 TB drives for larger datasets or scratch space.

What does the Threadripper 9970X 4.0 GHz base clock mean for actual workloads?

The 32-core, 64-thread CPU runs at 4.0 GHz base and can boost up to 5.4 GHz. With 128 MB L3 cache and 128 GB DDR5 ECC memory, it sustains high frequencies across all cores for rendering, simulation and AI tasks.

What does the TRX50 chipset and PCIe 4.0 x4 interface cap for these NVMe drives?

Each Samsung 990 PRO connects via PCIe 4.0 x4 on the TRX50 AERO D motherboard, limiting sequential throughput to the drive's rated 7450 MB/s read and 6900 MB/s write. The platform provides four M.2 slots, three of which are populated.
