Adapter for M.2 4G/5G modules

This USB 3.0 adapter lets you connect an NGFF M.2 key B modem to a desktop PC. It accepts 3042 and 3052 card sizes and includes a SIM extension kit for MicroSIM and NanoSIM cards. Auxiliary power ensures stable operation for modules such as Quectel RM500Q, Gosuncn GM800 and Sierra SIM8200. Four antennas and both USB-A and Type-C cables are supplied.

Suitable for WWAN upgrades on desktop PCs

Builders adding 2G, 3G, 4G or 5G connectivity to a desktop will find the Socket 2 USB 3.0 interface and included hardware convenient. Users whose M.2 module uses key A, key E or key M, or who need PCIe signalling instead of USB, cannot use this adapter. Laptop owners without a free USB 3.0 port should also look elsewhere.

USB 3.0 system bus interface

The adapter bridges the M.2 module to the host over USB 3.0, so the module must support USB 3.0 signalling on the Socket 2 WWAN pinout. Modules that rely solely on PCIe or other bus types will not function. This single interface requirement determines compatibility.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the adapter with the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz antennas or a version without them?

The package includes four 2.4/5G antennas, two M2 screws, four M2.5 screws, a screwdriver, a USB 3.0 cable, a SIM extension kit and a Type C cable. There is no antenna-less variant listed.

What does the USB 3.0 interface mean for real-world throughput when a 5G module is installed?

The adapter connects the M.2 module to the host over USB 3.0, so the link speed is capped at the USB 3.0 signalling rate; actual data rates depend on the module and network conditions.

Which M.2 key and physical sizes does the adapter accept?

It supports M.2 key B cards in 3042 and 3052 form factors and provides a slot for SIM, MicroSIM or Nano SIM cards.
