ASUS VivoBook 15 S513 40GB DDR4 laptop

The ASUS VivoBook 15 S513 is a 15.6 inch Windows 10 Home laptop powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U eight-core processor. It ships with 40GB of DDR4 memory and a 2TB SATA solid state drive. Integrated AMD Radeon graphics drive the 1920 x 1080 non-touch display. Connectivity includes 802.11ax Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, HDMI, USB 3.1 Type-C Gen1, USB 3.1 Gen1, two USB 2.0 ports and an SD card reader. A fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard and 720p webcam complete the feature set.

Suitable users and limits

This configuration suits buyers who want a large memory capacity and a high-capacity SATA SSD in a standard 15.6 inch chassis for multitasking and local file storage. It is not for buyers who require a dedicated graphics processor for heavy 3D workloads, a touchscreen panel, or an optical drive. The memory uses an onboard plus SODIMM layout, so users planning further RAM expansion should verify the slot arrangement.

40GB DDR4 memory configuration decides fit

The system provides 40GB of DDR4 RAM composed of 8GB soldered onboard and a 32GB SODIMM module. This mixed layout determines whether the total capacity meets a workload's needs and whether the single removable slot can accept a different module later. Buyers who need more than 40GB or a fully user-replaceable memory array should look at a different platform.

Questions about this item

How hot or loud does the 4700U get during long sessions?

The 45 W power supply and 42 Wh battery limit sustained draw, so the integrated Radeon graphics and 8-core chip stay within typical thin-and-light thermal envelopes.

Which peripherals must I already own to use the S513IA-DB74 out of the box?

Only the included 45 W charger is required; Wi-Fi 802.11 ax and Bluetooth 5.0 handle wireless, while USB 3.1 Gen1, USB 2.0, HDMI, USB-C Gen1 and the SD reader cover wired needs.

Will my older USB 2.0 drives and HDMI monitor work with this laptop?

Yes, two USB 2.0 ports and a full-size HDMI port are built in, so legacy flash drives, external disks and 1080p displays connect directly without adapters.
