UHD 4K Live Production Switcher

The Blackmagic Design ATEM 1 M/E Constellation UHD 4K is a production switcher built for live event UHD 4K switching. It provides 10 individual 12G-SDI inputs supporting 12G/3G/HD-SDI signals and six 12G-SDI outputs. A USB-C webcam output allows direct streaming to software platforms. The unit is operated via the integrated front panel, optional hardware panels or downloadable control software.

12G-SDI Connectivity and Multiview Monitoring

Ten 12G-SDI inputs accept mixed formats and frame rates thanks to per-input frame synchronisers, rate converters and format converters. Six 12G-SDI outputs deliver program, auxiliary or multiview feeds. The multiview output displays up to 16 routable windows showing inputs, keyed video, graphics, stills and program output. A built-in Fairlight mixer handles up to 28 channels of audio across all sources.

Four Upstream and One Downstream Keyer

The switcher includes four upstream keyers and one downstream keyer with chroma and luma keying for live compositing. All transitions and effects are processed in real time with no rendering required. A reference video input is provided for genlock synchronisation. Before ordering, verify that your cameras and sources match the supported SDI standards and that your monitoring and recording chain can handle the selected UHD 4K format.

Questions about this item

Will the internal Fairlight audio mixer ever need servicing or component replacement?

The Fairlight audio mixer is integrated into the switcher chassis and has no user-serviceable parts; any repair would require a qualified technician.

What limits the number of simultaneous multiview windows during a long production?

The multiview output supports up to 16 routable windows at once, so the hard limit is 16 simultaneous views.

How loud are the cooling fans when the switcher runs all day at full 12G-SDI throughput?

The unit uses internal cooling fans designed for continuous broadcast operation; fan noise is audible in a quiet room but typical for rack-mounted production gear.
