20-Input HD Live Production Switcher

The Blackmagic Design ATEM 2 M/E Constellation HD is a 1 RU rackmount switcher built for live event production. It accepts up to 20 individual 3G/HD-SDI sources and delivers program output through 12 BNC connections plus a USB-C webcam feed. Integrated Fairlight audio handles up to 48 channels. Front-panel controls, optional hardware panels, and downloadable software provide flexible operation.

Capacity and headroom

Each of the 20 inputs includes a frame synchronizer, frame rate converter, and format converter so mixed sources and non-genlocked cameras combine without external gear. Two multiview outputs support up to 16 routable windows for monitoring inputs, keys, graphics, stills, and program. Eight upstream and two downstream keyers handle real-time compositing. The 10-bit 3G/HD-SDI pipeline maintains quality throughout the chain.

Build integration

A reference video input locks the system to house sync. Twelve 3G-SDI BNC outputs distribute program, multiview, and auxiliary feeds. USB-C provides a direct webcam stream for streaming platforms. The 1 RU chassis fits standard racks and ships with a standard PC power cord and a 50-foot SDI BNC cable. Buyers needing more than 20 inputs or 4K/UHD workflows should consider larger Constellation models.

Questions about this item

Will the 20 3G/HD-SDI inputs accept feeds from older cameras that lack genlock?

Yes, each input has a built-in frame synchroniser, frame-rate converter and format converter so non-genlocked sources are re-timed automatically.

How can I verify the switcher is passing video correctly after I cable it up?

Route any input to one of the 12 program outputs and check the two multiview outputs — each shows up to 16 windows including program, preview, keys and media-pool stills.

Does the bundle include the 50-foot SDI cable and power cord, or must I order them separately?

The bundle ships with a 50-foot BNC-to-BNC SDI cable and a 6-foot standard PC power cord; no extra cables are required for basic operation.
