Connects a 2.5 inch SATA SSD or hard drive to USB 3.0 and Type-C ports with hot-swap and plug-and-play support
This cable connects a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive or SSD to a USB 3.0 or USB Type-C port on a MacBook or laptop. It supports drives that follow the Mass Storage Class standard and does not work with 3.5-inch hard drives. The adapter is compliant with Serial ATA specification revision 2.6 and includes a protective case.
Use this adapter when you need to access data from a laptop drive without installing it inside a chassis or using a separate power supply. The jump is worth it for quick data recovery, drive cloning or temporary external storage because the USB 3.0 interface offers up to 5 Gb/sec transfer rates and the cable is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports as well as SATA 1.5 Gb/s drives.
Verify that your drive is a 2.5-inch SATA model because 3.5-inch drives are not supported. Ensure your computer has a free USB Type-A or USB Type-C port for the male connectors. The adapter supports hot-swapping and plug-and-play, so no driver installation is required, but the host system must be able to supply enough bus power for the connected drive.

Yes, the 22-pin female connector is designed for 2.5-inch SATA SSDs and hard drives. It does not support 3.5-inch drives.
Plug the USB 3.0 or USB-C male end into the laptop, then attach the 22-pin SATA end to the drive. The drive must be seated firmly so all 22 pins make contact.
The adapter complies with Serial ATA 2.6 and USB 3.0 specifications, so the 5 Gb/s maximum rate is sustained as long as the drive and host port also meet those standards.
