Product identity

The Canon imageFORMULA R40II Receipt Edition is a flatbed scanner built for offices and small businesses that need to digitise receipts, invoices and mixed documents quickly. Its included software extracts payee, amount and date data automatically and can export directly to Intuit QuickBooks Online, streamlining bookkeeping workflows from the first scan.

Sustained workload behaviour

The scanner delivers up to 45 pages per minute in simplex mode and 90 images per minute in duplex mode for both colour and monochrome, maintaining that throughput across long batches. Optical resolution of 600 dpi ensures consistent detail capture, while the long document mode handles items up to 240 inches without slowing the feed mechanism.

Installation and common issues

A simple USB connection gets the device running with minimal driver effort, and the software guides users through the first scan in minutes. The unit accepts paper widths from 2 to 8.5 inches and weights from 7.2 to 110 lbs, so very thin receipts or heavy card stock outside that range may misfeed or require manual intervention.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the scanner produce when running all day?

The compact desktop design has no moving parts while idle and only a low hum during active scanning, so heat output stays minimal and the unit remains quiet enough for a shared office.

What must I already own to connect and power the R40II Receipt Edition?

A free USB port on a Windows or macOS computer supplies both data and power; no separate power adapter or expansion card is required.

Will the scanner handle the older 8.5-inch receipts and long invoices I still keep?

Yes — the feed accepts widths from 2 to 8.5 inches and lengths up to 14 inches, with a long-document mode that extends to 240 inches for continuous rolls.
