Purpose and fit

This 25-foot Cat5e patch cable links computers, routers, consoles, printers, VoIP phones, IP cameras, switches, modems and other RJ45 devices on a local network. It supports data rates up to 1000 Mbps and a bandwidth of 350 MHz, making it suitable for gigabit file transfers, cloud backups, HD video streaming and online gaming.

Who it suits and who it does not

Builders wiring home or small-office gigabit networks will find the length, unshielded twisted-pair construction and gold-plated connectors a practical match. Installations that need shielded cable, solid conductors, Power-over-Ethernet beyond the cable's basic PoE support, or runs longer than 25 feet should look for a different specification.

Deciding specification

The cable is rated for 350 MHz bandwidth and 1000 Mbps maximum throughput over its 25-foot length, so the buyer must confirm that the connected equipment and network standard do not exceed those limits.

Questions about this item

Does the 25 ft length fit a typical home run from router to desk?

At 25 ft the cable spans a standard room or crosses a hallway; measure the exact path and add slack for corners before ordering.

How do I seat the gold-plated RJ45 connectors so they click securely?

Align the tab with the port notch, push straight in until you hear a click, and verify the link lights on both devices turn on.

When should I replace this Cat5e cable with a higher-category type?

Replace it if the PVC jacket cracks, the connector tabs snap off, or you move to a multi-gigabit network that exceeds the 1 Gbps rating.
